Wisdom from God prepares us to live a better life. God’s Word, The Holy Bible is literally filled with His wisdom, His ways of doing things, His answers to the issues of our lives.
When the writer of the Book of Proverbs shared with
us what his father, King David shared with him, he was giving us a glimpse of
where his success came from. King Solomon was one of the wealthiest, famous and
most respected kings of his era. He is still regarded as the wisest man to
live, other than the Lord Jesus Christ. The point also shows us that it was
Solomon’s responsibility to get wisdom.
So, when King David died and King Solomon became the
king of Israel, he wisely sought God for wisdom. And his request was granted.
God gave him wisdom, and with it came riches, peace and greatness. Wisdom
elevated Solomon immensely. He was regarded as the go-to person if you had a
problem. Insight from God will do that for you.
How did Solomon get to acquire this great wisdom?
Here are a few things that he did and that he advised us to do as well.
Remember that wisdom, which is God’s answers to our situations, circumstances
and relationships, is available to all of us who desire it.
Solomon prayed and asked God for wisdom. Prayer is
the heart of need crying out to the One Who can meet the need. Prayer is the
soul and spirit of man asking for help from the God of the universe, realizing
that we cannot live this life successfully without His aid and assistance.
Prayer is in essence saying to God, I need You. Solomon prayed this way, and
God responded favorably. He is not a respector of persons. If He answered the
prayer for Solomon, surely He would answer such a prayer of humility for all
who seek Him.
Solomon encouraged us to seek for wisdom. Wisdom is
found in The Holy Bible. We must be willing to seek and search the Word
regarding the varied issues of our lives and see what God has to say about
them. There is an answer for every subject matter in the Bible. So, do your
homework, search and research what the Bible has to say about your situation,
and do what you are instructed.
Solomon shared what he learned with others. This is
an important point regarding wisdom. The more we share with others what we
learn, the more we will learn. Selfishness will hinder more of God’s wisdom
from coming to us. So learn to tell others what you have seen, practiced and
experienced as a result of your time in The Holy Bible, and enjoy the thrill of
seeing other people’s lives change.
Proverbs
4: 5-9 (AMP)
“Get skillful and godly Wisdom,
get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation); do not
forget and do not turn back from the words of my mouth. Forsake not [Wisdom], and she will keep, defend, and
protect you; love her, and she will guard you. The
beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and
godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get
understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation). Prize Wisdom
highly and exalt her, and she will exalt and promote you; she
will bring you to honor when you embrace her. She shall
give to your head a wreath of gracefulness; a crown of beauty and glory
will she deliver to you.”
